In ancient times, honey has been used has been used on people to treat their wounds. It is only in 2007, that manuka honey was recognized by the United States FDA as a healing treatment for wounds. Honey can provide a protective barrier- preventing infections in wounds. Patients would apply honey to wounded areas for faster healing time. Comparing honey to alcohol, manuka honey was less painful compared to the usage of alcohol on wounds.

Honey was also used to promote oral health before toothpaste was made. To avoid tooth decay and keeping the gums in top notch health, it was chewed or sucked on to reduce gingivitis and plaque. Harmful bacterias such as P. gingivalis and A. actinomycetemcomitans growth were inhibited. Manuka honey was effective in helping to prevent cavities and tooth decay- a very sweet benefit, unlike sugar.

See you next time!
